A couple of weeks ago, I talked with Super-K’s Boy Scout troop about gravity, pressure, force and mass.
Yep. We made soda bottle water rockets. It was a huge hit– I guess 7 year-old boys like things that shoot water and go really high. Who knew? 🙂
We also made baking soda and vinegar bottle rockets, which (surprisingly, to me) went a LOT higher than the water rockets. I got very wet, since I was controlling the angle of the rockets by hand. I also smelled of vinegar for the next several days.
It was a complete blast. Afterward, Super-K leaned over to his friend and whispered, “My dad is the best teacher, EVER.”
Oh, heck yes. I rock.
Last night, the troop went bowling. It’s been several weeks since the rocket launching madness. The boys are still talking about how much fun it was. (I wasn’t there– M went and reported that one of the boys went on and on about how sad he was that he missed it.)
Oo–did I mention? I rock. There is no better feeling than to teach a kid something he or she finds enjoyable. Well, except that they remember that it was you that taught them, and talk about how great you are for a couple weeks. That’s pretty cool.
