Prime Codex

I am no longer a stranger to the ways of the ‘Con.

🙂

More on that later. In this post, I’m announcing the launch of Prime Codex, a wonderful collection of short stories from some very talented new professionals. Neo-pros, if you will…

The most obvious flaw in the book is that I’m not in it. That’s my own fault, not the fault of the inestimable Lawrence Schoen (pronounced, to my surprise, shone– the Italian in me wants to give a hard pronunciation to all words using sch-.) or Michael Livingston, the editors/publishers of Prime Codex. I never submitted a story, alas.

The launch took place in the steamy, yet brightly colored Salon F at Balticon; cake and soda were provided as both enticement to passerbys and reward. Portions from three stories– Ruth Nestvold’sRainmakers,’ Elaine Isaak’s ‘The Disenchantment of Kivron Ox-master,’ and Eric James Stone’sSalt of Judas–’ were aptly read. I also read through Ken ScholesThe Man With Great Despair Behind His Eyes,’ before heading home– I enjoyed all three stories very much.
I’m sure you will, too– these are some bright, new voices in speculative fiction. I’ll give a full review when I’ve read the stories…
